How to Add a Payment Method and Check Billing History
This guide shows you how to manage cards and review past charges in SkillsDock. You will add a payment method, choose which card is used by default, and then check invoices and downloadable statements.
Prerequisites
- You are signed in to a Builder, Subcontractor, or Professional account.
- If you use Builder or Professional, you have admin access to the account.
- You have a valid debit or credit card ready to add.
If you are a builder or professional team member and cannot see the Billing tab, ask your account owner or admin to complete these steps.
Step 1: Open the Billing tab
- Log in to your dashboard.
- Open Settings.
- Select Billing.
Direct link: Builder | Subcontractor | Professional
The Billing tab is where you manage cards, review past charges, and export statements.
Step 2: Add your first card
- In Payment Methods, click Add Payment Method.
- Enter your Card Details in the pop-up form.
- Click Add Card.
If this is the first card on the account, SkillsDock makes it the default card automatically. Once it has been saved, the card appears in Payment Methods with the card brand, the last four digits, and the expiry date.
If you already have at least one saved card, the button may also appear as Add another card.
Step 3: Change the default card or remove an old one
Each saved card includes simple management actions:
- Default shows which card is currently used first for billing.
- Set as default moves another saved card into the main billing position.
- Remove deletes a card you no longer want on the account.
To switch the default card:
- Find the card you want to use.
- Click Set as default.
- Wait for the success message.
To remove a card:
- Find the card you no longer need.
- Click Remove.
- Wait for the removal message before leaving the page.
It is worth checking the Default badge after either change so you know the correct card is still active.
Step 4: Review your billing history
Scroll down to Billing history to review previous charges.
From this table you can:
- Filter the time period using:
- Last 30 days
- Last 90 days
- Financial year
- All time
- Use Search to look for a charge by description
- Check the columns for:
- Description
- Date
- Amount
- Status
- Invoice
If a billing line includes an invoice link, click View in the Invoice column to open it.
Step 5: Download a statement
If you need a file for bookkeeping or your accountant:
- Stay in the Billing history section.
- Click Download statements.
- Wait for the CSV file to download.
SkillsDock saves the file with the current date in the filename, which makes it easier to keep monthly or quarterly exports organised.
What you should see when everything is working
After setup, a normal Billing tab usually looks like this:
- At least one saved card in Payment Methods
- One card marked Default
- A list of recent billing entries in Billing history
- Status badges such as Paid, Pending, or Failed
- A working Download statements button
If your account is brand new, the cards section may be ready before the history section has anything to show. That is normal.
Troubleshooting
I cannot see the Billing tab
Builder and Professional accounts can hide Billing from non-admin users. If the tab is missing, sign in with an admin account or ask the owner to manage billing for you.
The card will not save
This usually means the card details were rejected before they were attached to your account. Re-enter the card carefully and try again. If the problem keeps happening, try a different card.
I added a second card but the old one is still being used
Adding another card does not always replace the existing default. Open Payment Methods and click Set as default on the card you want to use going forward.
Billing history is empty
No entries will appear until the account has at least one recorded charge. If you have only just added a card, the table can still be empty.
I expected an invoice link but there is no View button
Some billing entries do not include an invoice file. If there is no invoice attached to that row, the View action will not appear.
